My client has been established for over 30 years and are a market leader within the builder’s merchant trade industry. They currently employ over 60 staff across multiple sites and have built a fantastic reputation for providing quality products to the building trade industry. Due to on-going expansion, they now have an exciting opportunity for a Logistics Manager to predominantly be based at their London Colney site in St Albans, with some travel to other local sites also required.


Role responsibilities:

  • Liaise with key company employees to determine their logistical needs
  • Monitor the whole fleet and improve fuel consumption and delivery times
  • Nurture relationships with suppliers to negotiate the best value for the company
  • Identify and research potential new vehicles and supporting IT programs
  • To act as a company ambassador when dealing with customers and clients
  • Research new products and services to meet company’s common goals
  • Comply with governing bodies to ensure company’s and staff safety
  • Work independently on your own initiative as well as effectively as part of a wider team


Essential requirements:

  • 3+ years’ experience as a Transport Manager
  • Knowledge of external couriers and how they operate
  • Driving licence with your own vehicle or transport
  • CPC and an LGV/HGV class 2 licence
  • Understanding of driver’s hours rules and restitution periods and “Road Transport Directive Legislation”
  • Good understanding of fleet management and familiarity with FORS
  • Excellent communication – both written and verbal
  • Top class organisational and multi-tasking skills
  • Adaptable, flexible and able to fit to the needs of the business
  • Analytical, with a proactive and positive attitude
  • Computer literate
  • Take ownership, be accountable, passionate, motivated and committed to your work
  • Strong team player


What’s on offer:

  • Competitive base salary from £35k to £45k per annum depending on experience
  • Quarterly bonus based on company performance
  • Working hours: Monday to Friday 7am – 4:30pm. You must be able to commit to these working hours (42.5 hours per week)
